Downtown Victoria boasts a wonderful collection of toy stores. From stuff animals to action figures to so much more, these stores carry everything we need to have fun. Just inside their doors are hidden treasures for the child in all of us. Just like other types of businesses in a pandemic, these stores need our support to remain viable and open.
November 16 - 20, 2020 marked Rising Economy Week, an event co-hosted by the South Island Prosperity Partnership and Pacific NorthWest Economic Region. With the climate crisis and the pandemic still so prevalent and important, they offered a panel called "The Green Recovery: How do we build back even better?" Since these issues are so critical to us and our local businesses, we thought we'd share some of what they talked about. #RisingEconomyWeek2020
Two months ago, Chunky Kitchen Cafe opened its doors downtown. Located on Pandora Street at Fan Tan Alley, this little cafe boasts quick service, fresh food and affordable prices. With the pandemic still a part of our lives, small businesses, such as Chunky Kitchen Cafe, need our help to stay open and survive the financial difficulties of our present circumstances.
In downtown Victoria, we are fortunate to have easy access to wonderful seafood. Restaurants throughout the downtown core offer delicious treats for those who adore fresh seafood. Just like other types of businesses in a pandemic, these restaurants need our support to remain viable and open.
Every year, downtown store owners and managers give holiday gifts to their staff. This year will be different because of the pandemic. The same group dinner options aren't possible. However, workers and staff deserve to be thanked for all their hard work and dedication to keeping our downtown businesses running.
During the pandemic, shopping locally and supporting local businesses has become even more important. When we shop local, we strengthen both our community and our economy, by investing in the stores and entrepreneurs around us. Businesses in downtown Victoria have developed ways to safely and at social distance, with some shops creating or updating an online shop and/or others taking orders over phone or email.
