Re: Assemblage is a creative public sculpture in Victoria that transforms salvaged granite and iron street elements into a multifunctional bench, busking platform, and water fountain, blending heritage with urban art.

Re: Assemblage is a public art sculpture in Victoria, BC, created from heritage streetscape elements salvaged during the Douglas Street revitalization project. This unique assemblage repurposes unearthed granite curb stones, iron manhole covers, and granite wall rock to form a multifunctional installation. The piece serves as a protective street bench with a manhole grill, a busking platform that doubles as a time capsule, and a water fountain. Officially titled Re: Assemblage, the community affectionately calls it “Burnt Waffles” due to its distinctive appearance. The sculpture creatively honors the city’s history by breathing new life into discarded urban materials, blending functionality with heritage and art.
