Open Position: Part-time Content Creator & Events Specialist (25 hours/week)

The Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA) is looking for a Content Creator & Events Specialist to join our team and help us amplify the vibrancy and vitality of downtown Victoria!
As a key member of our marketing team, you’ll play a pivotal role in creating engaging digital content, curating events, and fostering relationships with local influencers—all while showcasing the unique charm and energy of our downtown core.

The DVBA is dedicated to promoting and supporting the businesses, organizations, and experiences that make downtown Victoria a vibrant and exciting place to live, work, and visit. As a non-profit organization, we work to strengthen the downtown community through collaboration, creativity, and effective marketing strategies.
Role Overview
This part-time position will see you balancing three exciting responsibilities:
1. Social Media Content Creation (approx. 12 hr/week)
- Create and post engaging Reels showcasing the best of downtown Victoria—new businesses, events, hidden gems, and more.
- Attend local events to capture dynamic content and give followers an insider’s look into the latest happenings.
- Stay up-to-date with social media trends, and leverage Instagram and TikTok to tell our businesses’ stories and encourage locals to come downtown.
Skills Required: Confidence on camera, experience creating Reels, strong social media presence, and an outgoing personality that represents the DVBA’s friendly, community-focused brand.
2. Event Page Curation & Newsletter Management (approx. 8 hr/week)
- Curate events for events.downtownvictoria.ca by researching local happenings on platforms like Facebook, Eventbrite, and social media.
- Use Mailchimp to craft and send our twice-monthly events newsletter, ensuring that Victorian’s know all about the exciting things happening in their downtown.
- Identify opportunities to increase subscribers of the newsletter
Skills Required: Proficiency in WordPress and Mailchimp, experience creating online newsletters, attention to detail, and an ability to work independently. Experience growing a newsletter audience is a plus.
3. Influencer Relationship Management (approx. 5 hr/week)
- Discover content creators with wide ranging audiences to partner with to create content featuring diverse downtown businesses.
- Build and manage relationships with local influencers to amplify downtown Victoria’s offerings.
- Use a budget to collaborate with influencers on content that features downtown businesses and events.
Skills Required: Outgoing, friendly, and able to foster authentic connections with local influencers to support our mission.
Qualifications
- Experience with social media platforms, particularly Instagram and TikTok
- Strong video content creation skills—must be confident on camera and able to craft visually appealing reels independently
- Previous experience with WordPress, Mailchimp, or similar platforms
- Ability to juggle multiple tasks, work independently, and hit deadlines
- Enthusiasm for downtown Victoria and a concrete understanding of the value and importance of small and locally-owned businesses in Victoria
