Vacations provide the opportunity to unplug, recharge while learning and experiencing new things. This break from the daily grind is an important tool in maintaining your mental health. A refreshed mind increases productivity at work leading to higher performance results. But how do you maintain your “vacation glow” after an amazing time away from the office?  Having recently come back from my summer vacation myself, the office team started chatting about how to extend that post-vacation feeling when you return to work. One common theme that we all agreed on was to create lunch hour excursions based on the experiences we enjoyed while away. With this in mind, here are my staff’s Top 10 Tips to Extend Your Vacation when you are back to work.

  1. Explore new parts of downtown. Filling your mind with new experiences will keep your summer adventure alive. Check out the new “Follow the Pod” installation in Centennial Square or take in the new lights in Waddington Alley
  2. Savour sunny days and partake in a culinary exploration with Hawaiian Coconut Prawns or local Lois Lake Steelhead Salmon on Earls Kitchen + Bar’s outdoor patio
  3. Grab that summer beach read that you did not get to finish while on vacation and find a bench in the Inner Harbour for a blissful literary escape
  4. Bring back balance to your skin with a 30-minute facial at Eco Chic AVEDA Salon & Spa – the AVEDA recovery serum works wonders for sun damage
  5. Ride that summer wave with a Salted Caramel milkshake at Johnny Rockets. Are we the only ones that enjoyed daily ice cream treats while on holiday?
  6. Maintain your Vitamin D levels with a lunch time Umi Sushi break on The Bay Centre’s food court patio – we love their Ebi Ebi and Dynamite rolls
  7. Detox with JUSU’s newest Dirty Lemonade cold-pressed juice with activated charcoal. They have a new vending machine at The Bay Centre on level 2.
  8. Pick up a new outfit. There is something equally as refreshing as wearing a new floral piece, which are on trend this season, inspired by your tropical getaway
  9. Relax your tired feet with a 15-minute foot bath at Faye’s Spa – your feet with thank you!
  10. Grab your sunglasses, take your lunch to go, and enjoy a sea breeze picnic under a Garry Oak tree in Beacon Hill Park
