For Immediate Release

VICTORIA BC – Bridge work in the harbour will become much more visible over the coming months as crews prepare to install the large steel and mechanical components of the new Johnson Street Bridge.

Tomorrow, the Arctic Tuk crane barge will unload two machinery pieces called span drives into the bascule pier, which are the hydraulic motors that will raise and lower the new bridge. To accommodate the work, the marine channel under the current Johnson Street Bridge will be closed to all marine traffic starting at 11 a.m. for approximately six hours.

During this time the marine channel under the current bridge will be closed to all marine traffic, however the current bridge will remain open to vehicle, bike and pedestrian traffic.
