“Introducing people from all over the world to the wonders of the Salish Sea, and knowing we are making a difference through education and conservation efforts, is the ultimate reward.”
Andrew Lees has been working with Five Star Whale Watching since 2006. He became the owner of this company in 2017 when the previous owners retired. Having nurtured a love of marine biology for much of his life, Andrew found the opportunity to learn more about marine ecosystems and life in the Salish Sea as a business owner. He now has an incredible wealth of knowledge, including the individual names of whales who live in the area, which he shares with visitors and locals alike. Five Star is committed to education, offering discounts to school groups and bringing awareness to conservation efforts throughout the area.
As a business owner, Andrew feels that it is his responsibility to give back to the community and support his fellow businesses. While whale watching is often viewed as a tourist activity, Andrew believes that his tours help connect locals to their sense of home here in Victoria.
