The chill’s officially in the air. Well, today anyhow. Downtown Victoria has so many tasty soul-warming options—Perogies, burgers, soup, pho, bbq, Korean bbq, curry, phad thai, tea, coffee, hot toddies, pasta, miso, paninis, stir fry, momos, and on and on and on. I have to say though, this time of year gives me pause when I think of people in need. In Greater Victoria, 15% of kids go to school hungry—That’s 3000 kids, from almost every school. How are you supposed to focus and learn with an empty belly?
As the season of giving comes into full bloom, here’s one way downtown Victoria businesses can pitch in and make a difference. Breakfast2Music, a volunteer-led not for profit is partnering with the Rotary Club of Victoria-Harbourside with the Polar Express Pancake Pajama Party at IMAX Victoria on Sunday, December 9. These two organisations are challenging local businesses to participate as sponsors, covering the cost of admission for children and also raising vital dollars to feed hungry kids. The Times Colonist, IMAX Victoria and Pizzeria Prima Strada are on board, along with more than 30 other businesses. Ralmax Ltd., who donates directly to schools regularly, has committed up to $4000 in matching dollars for this fantastic opportunity to join forces and improve the nutrition and lives of so many children. This private event includes many Grade 4/5 students who participate in breakfast programs.
Funds raised will go towards breakfast and music programs for kids in School District 61. The goal is to help feed our community’s children who go to school hungry.
“What better way to raise funds to support kids than to throw a big pancake party with a classic film. The business community has a solid track record of banding together in times of need. The response has been amazing.”
