Thai on the Coast

Thai on the Coast

Date:
Tuesday, January 10, 2017 - 6:00pm to 9:00pm

One of the most beautiful memories for anyone visiting Thailand is the seafood. These people love the sea and the food that comes from it, to nourish them. This was one element that really made me feel at home. The crispy rockfish salad was one of my favorite special dishes, while living in Bangkok. The hot and sour soup is likely one of Thailand's most famous dishes. When I returned home, the red curry with mussels was a dish I continued to make and serve as an evening special, while working as a line cook at Pagliacci's.

"From Door to Door" is a bittersweet comedy about the blessings and compromises of three generations of women. Mary is mourning the loss of her husband. Mary's daughter, Deborah, encourages Mary to move toward a new independence, while Mary's mother, Bessie, still carries the influences of old Europe.

As Mary reflects on her life as daughter, wife and mother, we glimpse how each successive generation lives with both the expectations of the past and new choices for the future. The three women stand as links in a chain made of faith, love, and understanding.

Story to Screen

Date:
Sunday, January 29, 2017 - 1:00pm to 5:00pm

Hate it when your favourite story is made into a mediocre film? Think you can do better? You can. In this hands-on four-hour adaptation workshop we'll look at the various kinds of adaptation (newspaper/magazine article, short stories, novels), the techniques, and challenges of adaptation. And then we'll work together – writing room style - to adapt a story or two (likely Chekov) into a short film.

In the Heights

In the Heights

Date:
Sunday, January 29, 2017 - 2:00pm to 4:00pm

IN THE HEIGHTS tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind. IN THE HEIGHTS is the winner of the 2008 Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestrations.
