About the Good Neighbour Program

The Good Neighbour Program is a new initiative launched by the Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA). Our mission is to encourage downtown business collaboration and facilitate engagement between downtown residents and downtown businesses.

The Good Neighbour Program is working together with the city of Victoria, the Downtown Residents Association, VicPD, Bylaw Offices, and a number of other strategic partners in order to reinvigorate the downtown core and strengthen Victoria’s sense of community and safety.

Strengthening Communication

One of the main goals of this program is to strengthen communication between businesses. Information sharing and relationship building are important for a number of reasons:

  • Safety issues and concerns can be shared rapidly with your neighbouring businesses
  • Quickly exchanging reports of suspicious activities allows for businesses to be proactive in crime prevention
  • The voice of a unified block is stronger than any individual business
  • Promotional block events can be coordinated
  • Walk Safe programs can be arranged for staff that are uncomfortable when they leave their business at night

In addition to promoting business-to-business communication, the Good Neighbour Program is creating resident-to-business communication opportunities. When workers go home, downtown residents are the eyes and ears of downtown Victoria and we are creating ways to strengthen this relationship to increase incident reporting and promote a sense of community and connection.

Keeping it Human

Keeping it Human

Housing and Homelessness are polarizing issues, let’s talk about it.

Presented by The Existence Project (www.theexistenceproject.ca), the Victoria Downtown Residents Association (www.victoriadra.ca) + the Downtown Victoria Business Association.

Keeping It Human is an opportunity for you to hear the story of someone who has experienced homelessness, reflect on social issues happening in your neighbourhood, and get some tangible next steps towards addressing housing solutions for your community.

This workshop is for people who are looking to find:

  • Understanding and compassion for the homeless experience
  • Baseline knowledge of what’s working and what isn’t
  • An opportunity to reflect on what needs to change
  • A way forward for individuals and the group they represent to take action

This is a free event. To register, click here.
