Directed by Stanley Kubrick and based on a Steven King novel. Jack Nicholson gets his rage on in this one when he takes a gig as caretaker of an isolated hotel in the Rockies and then begins hearing voices and seeing eerie things.

The Shining is classic psychological scary. It’s not about flailing chainsaws, but there is some axe swinging.

It’s about the psychic ability that allows people to communicate strong messages to others using the mind, like what one does when people take too long at the checkout line.

The movie takes its name from the gifted kid in the story with psychic abilities, not the “I see dead people” kid, although the Shining says, “Stay out of room 237.” Okee dokee.
