Hailing from BC’s Lower Mainland, Jay Hanscom graduated from Emily Carr University of Art and Design with a major in sculpture and drawing. His artistic arsenal encompasses traditional mediums like pencils and oilbars, coupled with unconventional elements such as auto body pin-stripping and epoxy resin. History, infused with rebellion and romanticism, weaves through Hanscom’s creations, influenced by pop culture, art history, and a touch of dark humor. His work resonates with music, film, childhood space adventures, classic westerns, and the edginess of hotrods and motorcycle gangs, culminating in a diverse and inspired artistic exploration.
