The Downtown Victoria Buskers Festival (DVBF) is a FREE FIVE-DAY community event that takes place in downtown Victoria over the September long weekend. In 2018, it happened between August 30th and September 3rd, and featured talented buskers from around the world. You can preview the acts who attended on this page.

2018 DATES –  Thursday, August 30th to Monday, September 3rd

 

LOCATIONS

Centennial Square – This is the main hub of the event where the main stage is located and a stage on the grass area along Douglas Street plus a variety of food vendors. Please bring your own chairs or blankets for seating.

Market Square – This breathtaking, heritage site will feature a kid-friendly area with face painting by donation, hula hoops and bubbles.

Bastion Square – With an artisan market, one of the most breath-taking backdrops around and built in seating this is a must see location!

ALAKAZAM – BOSTON, USA

If you’re one of those people who struggles to even cross your legs while sitting, your jaw will drop in awe upon seeing Alakazam. Through body contortions, truckloads of Aussie charm and daredevil-esqute feats, you’ll marvel at Al’s fast paced and hilarious show and see why he’s considered one of the world’s best buskers!

 

RHYTHM WORKS – TORONTO, CANADA

A rhythmic explosion of beats and energy. bucket drumming; music played on pots and pans and body percussion. Mixed in with some beat boxing and everyone gets involved!

 

GEORGE KAMIKAWA – BORN IN JAPAN, LIVING IN MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

George hails from Japan and has honed his skills to become an exemplary blues artist. His playing is typified by its raw energy and broad tonal range-from delicate harmonics to searing rips and slides on guitar, soulful singing, multiple drum pedals by foot and driving rhythms on harmonica, almost a one man band.

 

JP KOALA – SYDNEY AUSTRALIA

With a slick selection of comedy, whip cracking, juggling, and character routines, J-P delivers the right show for every audience, every time. Every show is custom tailored to the event, the audience, and the atmosphere. With the help of Kenny the Koala, JP offers a family-friendly custom experience for all to enjoy!

 

MAT RICARDO – LONDON, ENGLAND

A completely unique street performer in both style and content, Mat takes inspiration from the gentleman jugglers of the glory days of vaudeville, and updates the artform with jaw-droppingly original tricks and a wit honed over a three decade performing career. He can be relied on to pull a crowd and then reduce them to hysterics, all while showing them tricks they’ve never seen before, might still think are impossible, but will never forget. Fast hands, smart mouth, good suit.

 

PANCHO LIBRE – MEXICO CITY!

Pancho is a highly flexible and creative artist adaptable to different projects. A clown at heart, he loves to move, to dance and is an explosive acrobat! Pancho has a wealth of experience performing solo and in a group environment. One of his his most popular works has been an award winning interactive, high-skilled, comedy performance ‘Pancho Libre -The Mexican’ which has been performed in sixteen countries around the globe!

 

TIANNA THE TRAVELER – EDMONTON, ALBERTA

Tianna travels the world collecting unusual stories and stunts. Her cheeky grin shines in the face of a challenge, and her charm pulls audiences into her brave world of wonder. The show includes whip cracking, balancing a brave volunteer, and an original ratchet strap escape.

 

LES DUDES – QUEBEC, CANADA

Stories in the City is an interactive street theatre show inspired by the stories and imagination of the danish writer H.C. Andersen. In the world of stories anything can happen! With physical comedy, music and circus we invite you to imagine, enjoy and have fun with us–who knows, you might even get to discover your inner prince or princess during the show!

 

HER MAJESTY’S SECRET CIRCUS – VERMONT, USA

British super-Secret Circus agents Honeymoon & Butterfly are on a mission. Using their extremely high IQs, plunger arrows, and a huge stealth unicycle, their original comedy and “special” tricks save the day every time. The show is action-packed stunt-comedy for all ages!

 

MISTER F/FRED PERFORMER – PARIS, FRANCE

Mister F is an artist of Cirque du Soleil, award winner of artistic diabolo European Championship, and international performer from France. His last show “The Bubble Man” combines traditional circus and street arts energy to bring the audience in a suprising and entertaining universe!

 

KNUDSON & CONNAUGHTON

Caden Knudson and Aaron Connaughton are the accountant & trucker acoustic folk duo playing intricate fingerstyle guitar accompanied by driving double bass, tied together with smooth harmonies. Knudson & Connaughton redefines easy listening music with their original rootsy bluesy songs about life and loneliness in the Fraser Valley, as well as dancing spiders.
