The Hands of Time: Cupping Dogwood Blossoms

A Symbol of Care and Heritage in the Heart of Victoria

Cupping Dogwood Blossoms is a bronze sculpture by Crystal Przybille that depicts a pair of hands gently holding Pacific dogwood flowers, symbolizing care, reflection, and Victoria’s role as British Columbia’s capital.

Cupping Dogwood Blossoms is one of twelve bronze sculptures from The Hands of Time series by artist Crystal Przybille, created to commemorate Victoria’s 150th anniversary in 2012. Mounted on a lamp post along Belleville Street, across from the British Columbia Legislature, the piece features a pair of life-sized hands gently holding Pacific dogwood blossoms—the official floral emblem of British Columbia. This delicate gesture symbolizes care, reflection, and the nurturing of both the present moment and future generations. As with the other sculptures in the series, it connects viewers to Victoria’s layered cultural and natural history through a subtle, intimate interaction with the urban environment.
