Silk Road - Local business with world-wide appeal

Serendipity: the story of the Venus Sophia

The Venus Sophia Tea Room and Vegetarian Eatery is an aptly named establishment for its current owners, Sallie and Alain El Alaily. The story of how they met and came to own a tea room in downtown Victoria is represented by the symbolic meaning of the eatery’s name – love, beauty and wisdom.

Murchie's - Taking Time for Tea

Often considered more British than Britain, downtown Victoria is the centre of tea culture in the city. Thinking of an afternoon spent with friends, sipping tea and chatting, brings to mind one of our Victoria’s oldest tea establishments… Murchie’s.

When Murchie’s was first opened in Victoria in the 1950s, its storefront was in the 600 block of Fort Street; it later moved to lower Government Street and, about 25 years ago, it moved to its current location at 1110 Government St.
