Downtown Blog: Transportation

DVBA partners with Modo

Modo - formerly Victoria Carshare Co-op - the only member-owned carshare operator in Greater Victoria, recently became an associate member of the Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA) – a first step in collaborating with the Association to resolve the downtown’s growing transportation concerns.

Partnership and Communication

We all make the best decisions we can with the information we have available at the time, BUT we can always learn more and we need to listen to others to hear their perspectives. As business owners, you need to deal with these facts daily to grow and protect your business and thereby your livelihood, and yet sometimes we make mistakes with the best of intentions.

Consulting is an important part of the process

Where to Park in our Downtown

Last week’s, The complexities of transportation editorial launched what the DVBA is currently partnered and working on. The initial 28 action items have now grown to 31 and we are working diligently to bring some or all of the ideas to fruition.

Part one was to produce an interactive map of every possible parking lot/structure and on-street parking space in the Downtown core that we will continue to update. Some of these facilities are privately owned and some are city owned. We have broken them up by parking type and added whether they are monthly, hourly, weekly.

The complexities of transportation

Transportation is a complex and complicated issue in any urban centre. Add in construction demands, increased shopping, increased densification and a city that is growing from a smaller city to a larger Capital City and you have a difficult situation to navigate.

Parking downtown: It’s easier than you think this holiday season!

As Christmas approaches, we want you to enjoy your First Hour Free at all five City parkades EVERY Saturday from November 24 to December 22, compliments of the DVBA, no voucher required! It’s our Christmas gift to you this season – hassle free holiday parking.

The five City of Victoria parkades are located at:

- Centennial Square (645 Fisgard Street)
- Bastion Square (575 Yates Street)
- Johnson Street (750 Johnson Street)
- View Street (743 View Street)
- Greater Victoria Public Library (745 Broughton Street)
