Victoria has taken a Shine to the Scottish

We're pretty glad that things didn't work out as Barry Thomson planned. Barry came to Canada from Glasgow, Scotland, in 1990 to work as a car mechanic, but when his trade certificate wasn’t transferable he chose a new career... as a chef.

Four years later, Barry met Lauren while working in the same restaurant over the summer. Now married, the husband and wife team opened their first Shine Cafe nine years ago at 1548 Fort Street and began serving between 6,000 and 8,000 free range eggs a week. Things haven't slowed down since.

Murchie's - Taking Time for Tea

Often considered more British than Britain, downtown Victoria is the centre of tea culture in the city. Thinking of an afternoon spent with friends, sipping tea and chatting, brings to mind one of our Victoria’s oldest tea establishments… Murchie’s.

When Murchie’s was first opened in Victoria in the 1950s, its storefront was in the 600 block of Fort Street; it later moved to lower Government Street and, about 25 years ago, it moved to its current location at 1110 Government St.
